Luigi Mangione arrested after mother’s tip-off to FBI about possible murder connection
Luigi Mangione was arrested in Pennsylvania after his mother, Kathleen Mangione, spoke to the FBI just hours before his capture.
According to the New York Post, Kathleen was questioned by the Joint Violent Crimes Task Force on Sunday after her son was reported missing last month, ahead of the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. The FBI was tipped off by San Francisco police, who suspected that the missing 26-year-old could be the same person seen in surveillance footage of the suspected shooter.
While Kathleen acknowledged that the individual in the footage resembled her son, she was not entirely sure it was him. The following morning, Luigi was arrested at a McDonald's in Pennsylvania after customers alerted staff, recognizing him from the manhunt.
Luigi, who had been missing since mid-November, hired renowned New York attorney Karen Friedman Agnifilo to represent him on murder charges. He may be extradited to New York next week.
