Government to call joint parliamentary session over Madrassa bill

Sources suggest that the bill could be reintroduced at the upcoming joint session

The government has decided to call joint session of Parliament, with the possibility of reintroducing the controversial Madrassa Bill, Express News reported.

A summary to summon the joint session has been sent to the President of Pakistan for approval, with the approval expected soon. The joint session is likely to be held on 17 December, sources said.

The Madrassa Bill has been at the centre of a dispute between the government and the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F). The bill was passed by Parliament but was returned by President Asif Ali Zardari with objections, leading to further delays.

Sources suggest that the bill could be reintroduced at the upcoming joint session.

The ongoing tension between the government and the JUI-F over the bill remains unresolved, with both sides continuing to hold differing views on the proposed legislation.
