Rapper OG Maco on life support after gunshot wound to head
Rapper OG Maco, whose real name is Benedict Chiajulam Ihesiba Jr., is currently clinging to life at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles after sustaining a gunshot wound to the head.
The 32-year-old was rushed to the hospital early Thursday morning following a 911 call made at 10 a.m. from a neighbor who heard a gunshot from inside his home. Upon arrival, authorities found OG Maco unresponsive and he was immediately taken into surgery.
In a statement to AllHipHop, OG Maco's day-to-day manager, Poppa Perc, confirmed the rapper's critical condition, revealing that he is currently on life support. “I thought he was dead when I first saw him,” Poppa Perc said. “We were about to rebrand and drop [new music] under a whole new alias. We need everyone’s prayers.” He also grimly added, “But don’t get your hopes up. We don’t have too much information. They won’t even let us come to the hospital.”
OG Maco rose to fame with his 2014 breakout single 'U Guessed It,' which featured a remix with 2 Chainz and entered the Billboard Hot 100. The rapper, who has collaborated with a number of artists and was signed to Quality Control Music, has faced several challenges over the years, including a severe car accident in 2016 and a rare skin disease diagnosis in 2019.
