The dispute over the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 has been resolved, with the International Cricket Council (ICC) reportedly endorsing a hybrid model proposed by Pakistan, Indian media reported on Friday. This comes after India refused to send its team to Pakistan due to security concerns and political issues.
According to reports from Indian media, under the new arrangement, Pakistan will host the group stage matches, while the highly anticipated India-Pakistan game will be played at a neutral venue. The final could either be held at a neutral location or in Lahore, depending on India’s progression.
In addition to the Champions Trophy deal, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have also agreed on the logistics for the T20 World Cup 2026 scheduled to be played in India.
Pakistan will not travel to India for their group-stage match, which will instead be played in Colombo. The PCB will not receive financial compensation for this decision, although In return, Pakistan secured the right to host an ICC Women’s tournament after 2027.
“The agreement has been well-received by all stakeholders, ensuring smooth planning for these marquee events while addressing logistical and geopolitical concerns,” an official source said.
The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is scheduled from February 19 to March 9 next year, featuring eight teams divided into two groups. The top two teams from each group will advance to the semifinals, with the final to follow.
