Prison Break reboot receives Hulu pilot order under Mayans M.C. creator Elgin James
A reboot of the popular Prison Break series is moving forward, with Hulu ordering a pilot under the guidance of Elgin James, co-creator of Mayans M.C. and The Outlaws. The new project will expand on the Prison Break universe while introducing fresh characters and a distinct storyline, marking a departure from the original series centered on Michael Scofield (Wentworth Miller) and Lincoln Burrows (Dominic Purcell).
James is collaborating with executive producers from the original show, including Dawn Olmstead, Paul Scheuring, Marty Adelstein, and Neal Moritz. The reboot comes as the original series experiences a resurgence in popularity, recently ranking as the most streamed series in the U.S. in August 2024, following its return to Netflix and Hulu. With nearly 200 million streaming hours this year, the show’s revival reflects its enduring fanbase.
James, known for his acclaimed work on Mayans M.C., brings his expertise in creating compelling narratives to this project. He has promised a reimagined approach to the beloved franchise, focusing on its core themes while exploring new directions. Casting for the pilot has yet to begin, but sources suggest James may bring familiar faces from his previous works.
Hulu’s pilot order underscores the platform’s growing investment in original hourlong dramas, following successes with series like Death and Other Details. Fans of the original Prison Break and James’ storytelling are eagerly anticipating this new chapter, set to offer a fresh take on a classic tale of suspense and ingenuity.
