BAHAWALPUR:

A 24-year-old woman from Haroonabadi, Bahawalpur, has reportedly been the victim of a gang rape, followed by an acid attack on Thursday.

The incident unfolded when the victim woman was lured under the pretence of a freelance job offer.

Over three days, she was allegedly raped by the accused, including a man named Haroon, who is now in police custody after being apprehended while attempting to flee the scene.

After the assault, the suspects reportedly threw acid on the victim's face and body before abandoning her in critical condition at the Bahawalpur Victoria Hospital.

Medical Superintendent Dr Amir Bukhari confirmed that she is currently in critical condition and that samples have been sent for forensic testing to aid in the investigation.

The victim's brother, Zohaib Iqbal, has filed a complaint at the Baghdadi Police Station, leading to a case being registered against Haroon and other unidentified individuals.

The police are actively pursuing the remaining suspects and have conducted raids in an effort to bring them to justice.

The victim's family has appealed to the Punjab chief minister, urging for immediate action against the perpetrators and calling for their swift arrest and punishment.
