Encroachment crisis escalates in capital

ISLAMABAD:

Due to the alleged neglect of the Encroachment and Enforcement Department of the Capital Development Authority (CDA), the encroachers have illegally occupied more than 2,000 places on state land in the federal capital.

Even occupying government lands in some suburban areas and construction of plazas is also happening without any fear.

The CDA Board has decided to immediately restructure the Enforcement Wing to improve its performance. After that, there will be large-scale operations against encroachments on government lands.

During the CDA Board's meeting, decisions were also taken to start work on shifting the CDA's transport fleet to electric vehicles and to allot plots to government departments in Sector I-17.

The 17th meeting of the CDA Board was held the other day under the chairmanship of CDA Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa at the CDA Headquarters in which all the board members participated.

In the meeting, various decisions and projects were approved by considering various agendas. The CDA Board meeting decided to reorganise the Enforcement Wing to improve its efficiency.

A committee comprising the Member Finance, Member Admin and Member Technology has been established which will present its recommendations in the next meeting.

The Board decided that a security directorate would be organised to ensure discipline in the institution.

In this regard, it was directed that the recommendations would be presented in the next meeting. Approval was also given to extend the e-balloting agreement between the CDA and the NADRA. It was also decided to allocate space for the Smart Islamabad Initiative in Jinnah Convention Centre.

It was further decided by the CDA Board regarding the proposed rules for setting up electric vehicle charging points at existing and new fuel stations in Islamabad that all stakeholders will be consulted and feedback on the rules will be taken.
