US President-elect Donald J Trump was named Time magazine’s 'Person of the Year' on Thursday, marking his second time receiving the title.

Trump, who first earned the distinction in 2016 after his presidential election victory, joins an exclusive group of individuals who have been named twice.

The list includes the last three two-term US presidents: Bill Clinton, George W Bush, and Barack Obama. Franklin D Roosevelt remains the only individual to have been named 'Person of the Year' three times.

Trump’s relationship with Time has been marked by contradictions. Following his 2016 selection, he praised the magazine as “very important” and called the recognition a “tremendous honour.”

However, his approval was tempered by Time’s cover headline, which referred to him as “President of the Divided States of America” — a phrase that sparked frustration due to his contentious and polarising win, in which he lost the popular vote.
