Tyler, The Creator slams podcast culture, says he would ‘take podcast mics away’ if president
Tyler, The Creator recently shared his critical yet humorous take on podcast culture in a cover story for Billboard on December 11. The Grammy-winning artist joked that his first act as president would be “taking podcast mics away.” His frustration stems from the influx of poorly articulated discussions dominating the medium, particularly relationship debates and extreme hypotheticals.
“If I [were] president, the first thing I would do is take podcast mics away from n**gas,” Tyler quipped. Despite his critique, he has made notable podcast appearances, such as his August interview on Mavericks with Mav Carter. In the discussion, Tyler delved into internet culture and criticized individuals, including a “white kid” widely speculated to be Ian, for mocking iconic artists like Future and Gucci Mane.
While Tyler’s remarks highlight the challenges of podcast culture, the medium has also become a powerful platform for Hip Hop voices. Legends such as N.O.R.E. and DJ EFN (Drink Champs) and Joe Budden (The Joe Budden Podcast) have built influential shows, while emerging talents like Yung Miami (Caresha Please) and Lil Yachty (formerly A Safe Place Podcast) have also thrived in the space.
Beyond his podcast critique, Tyler reflected on his latest milestone: the success of his album CHROMAKOPIA. The 14-track project debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, with 299,500 album-equivalent units sold in its first week. Featuring collaborations with GloRilla, ScHoolboy Q, and Sexyy Red, the album has become Tyler’s biggest yet. "Thirteen years in and my latest s**t is my biggest," he shared, expressing his gratitude and disbelief.
Looking ahead, Tyler is gearing up for the CHROMAKOPIA: THE WORLD TOUR, set to kick off in February 2025. His reflections reveal a dynamic artist unafraid to challenge norms while celebrating his ongoing growth and success.
