Quando Rondo sentenced to 33 months in federal prison for drug conspiracy charges
Savannah rapper Quando Rondo, born Tyquian Bowman, has been sentenced to 33 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to federal drug conspiracy charges in August. The sentencing, handed down during a hearing on Wednesday, reflects a compromise between the defense’s request for a 24-month term and the prosecution’s push for 37 months.
During the proceedings, Rondo expressed remorse for his actions and acknowledged the consequences. "I did the wrong thing, and I'm getting punished for it," he told the court. He also addressed his fans, emphasizing the importance of accountability and making better choices.
In an exclusive interview with WJCL 22 News, Rondo shared his gratitude for the sentence, viewing it as an opportunity for personal growth. “As crazy as it sounds, that's enough time to really sit down, rehabilitate myself, and come up with better plans for my family and friends,” he said. His reflections reveal a commitment to using this period to reset and improve his future.
In addition to his prison term, Bowman faces a $40,000 fine and three years of supervised release. As part of his release conditions, he must undergo regular drug testing, participate in mental health treatment, and avoid contact with known gang members. The sentence will run concurrently with any penalties stemming from separate charges in Chatham County.
Bowman is required to report to prison by January 10 and is expected to serve his time at either Jesup or Estill federal prisons. While the charges highlight the seriousness of his actions, Rondo’s focus on rehabilitation signals his intention to emerge from this experience as a better role model and person.
