Hannah Kobayashi disappearance reason revealed: Messy love triangle and immigration scam exposed
Hannah Kobayashi has confirmed she is safe and well, the actual reason for her disappearance has now been revealed.
Kobayashi, 30, had been traveling from her home on Maui, Hawaii, to New York City when she abruptly left Los Angeles International Airport and vanished.
She was not traveling alone. Kobayashi was heading to New York with her new Green Card husband, Alan Cacace, an Argentina native, in what DailyMail.com can reveal was an attempt to convince immigration authorities of the authenticity of their marriage.
On the same flight, her ex-boyfriend, Amun Miranda, joined them along with his own Green Card wife, Marianne, who also happened to be Cacace’s girlfriend.
Miranda and Kobayashi had ended their two-year relationship in August.
This complex love triangle-turned-love square was made possible after Cacace allegedly paid Kobayashi $15,000, with the promise of another payment once he received the immigration documents allowing him to stay in the U.S.
The sham marriage plan was already underway, with photos of their wedding being shared by Kobayashi with coworkers at the Maui smoke shop, Up 'N Smoke, following their marriage in October.
However, Cacace believed that taking pictures with Kobayashi at iconic New York landmarks such as the Empire State Building, Central Park, or Broadway would be enough to convince immigration officials of their relationship’s legitimacy.
"There was no secret," said Desiree, Kobayashi’s coworker at the smoke shop, to DailyMail.com. "She told us about her plans."
"The Argentinian couple wanted to hop on the trip at the last minute because it presented an opportunity for photos of their 'romantic vacation,'" Desiree added.
The group’s dynamics quickly became complicated.
Kobayashi’s coworkers told DailyMail.com that she had mixed emotions about the trip. While excited to visit New York and see relatives, she was frustrated to share the flight with her ex-boyfriend, Miranda.
Her colleagues also revealed that Kobayashi’s frustration stemmed from her financial arrangement with Cacace and his girlfriend, whom she referred to as "cash cows." Kobayashi had expressed she didn’t want them on the trip but reluctantly agreed.
She reportedly told her coworkers she would begrudgingly dedicate one day of her weeklong vacation to taking photos for their purposes.
Adding to the tension was Marianne, with whom Kobayashi recently had an argument, fueled by jealousy over Marianne’s marriage to Cacace.
