Austin Butler is set to take on the iconic role of Patrick Bateman in Luca Guadagnino's upcoming adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis' novel "American Psycho" for Lionsgate.

The film, which will not be a remake of the 2000 movie, will feature a new script by Scott Z. Burns. Guadagnino, known for his work on "Call Me by Your Name" and "Suspiria," is expected to bring a fresh perspective to the story, potentially with a greater emphasis on eroticism.

Butler's casting comes after rumors that Jacob Elordi was being considered for the role. Both actors have previously played Elvis in different movies, with Butler starring in Baz Luhrmann's "Elvis" and Elordi in Sofia Coppola's "Priscilla." The new adaptation of "American Psycho" is expected to be a unique take on the novel, which follows the story of a Wall Street yuppie and serial killer in 1980s New York.

Guadagnino has a proven track record of creating critically acclaimed films, with his previous two movies "Queer" and "Challengers" receiving Golden Globe nominations. With Butler on board, the new adaptation of "American Psycho" is shaping up to be a highly anticipated release. The film is expected to go into production soon, with Guadagnino bringing his distinctive style and vision to the project.
