Luigi Mangione’s trucker jacket selling fast for $80
Luigi Mangione, the accused killer of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, has sparked an unexpected trend after a green trucker jacket, similar to the one he was seen wearing in CCTV footage, surged in popularity online.
The Levi’s sherpa-lined, hooded jacket, priced at $225, gained attention when a Reddit user speculated it was the same garment worn by Mangione during the murder in Midtown.
In the wake of this speculation, the jacket quickly sold out. Within 48 hours, over 700 units of the “Sherpa Lined Two Pocket Hooded Trucker Jacket” were bought, according to Macy’s website. By Tuesday, the jacket was listed as “unavailable,” but it returned for $80 the next morning. Kohl’s also reported that the jacket was “going fast,” with over 3,000 purchases. A similar style was also available on Amazon for the same price.
The online frenzy surrounding Mangione led to a lookalike contest in Washington Square Park, where participants donned hooded jackets and face masks, mimicking the suspect. Merchandise featuring Mangione’s image, including mugs, hats, and T-shirts, also appeared on e-commerce sites, although these were eventually removed.
Mangione, who was arrested in Altoona, Pennsylvania, after being found with a fake ID, ghost gun, and manifesto, has been charged with murder in connection to Thompson’s death.
