CM Maryam invites Chinese companies to invest in Punjab SEZs
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, accompanied by a delegation, arrived in Shanghai on the third leg of her visit to China.
During her visit, she held a meeting with Zou Zongming, Deputy Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Shanghai Committee, who warmly welcomed her.
The discussion focused on enhancing economic ties between Punjab and Shanghai, with both sides expressing a strong commitment to further strengthening their collaboration.
The meeting emphasised the need to promote cooperation in various sectors, including trade, investment, science, technology, and industry.
Maryam Nawaz acknowledged the support provided to Pakistani students and professionals, thanking China for offering training and educational opportunities.
Additionally, she invited Shanghai-based companies to invest in Punjab’s Special Economic Zones, which are aimed at boosting the region’s economic growth.
Highlighting Shanghai’s role as a global financial and trade hub, Maryam Nawaz Sharif expressed a keen interest in collaborating with Shanghai companies in sectors like automobiles, IT, semiconductors, and robotics. She emphasized that China’s cooperation in building the capacity of experts in Pakistan’s IT sector has contributed significantly to its growth.
The Chief Minister stated that Pakistan’s IT industry is well-equipped to develop in line with the vision of Chinese President Xi Jinping. She also assured that the Punjab government is fully prepared to promote the IT sector in collaboration with Shanghai authorities.
Punjab chief minister underscored that Pakistan and China have grown closer during the tenures of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, especially with the launch of landmark projects such as the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
She expressed her deep personal connection with China, stating that the bond between the two nations runs deep in her blood.
Furthermore, the Chief Minister highlighted that after years of political and economic instability, Pakistan’s economy is now showing positive growth and improving economic indicators.
In her remarks, she assured that Chinese companies will be given priority and facilities to invest in Punjab, with the government focusing on fostering further cooperation in trade, investment, infrastructure, and public relations between the two regions.
She also assured that after a prolonged period of political and economic instability, Pakistan's economy is now on a trajectory of growth, with promising economic indicators.
Deputy Secretary Zou Zongming reaffirmed Shanghai's dedication to strengthening trade, investment, infrastructure, and cultural ties with Punjab.
He emphasized the importance of people-to-people connections in fostering mutual understanding and furthering the strategic partnership.
