Luigi Mangione, the 26-year-old suspect charged with the second-degree murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, appeared in court for his extradition hearing on Tuesday.

Mangione, who is being held without bail, made headlines as he shouted to reporters outside the Blair County Courthouse in Pennsylvania, calling the charges against him “an insult to the intelligence of the American people.”

The case has taken an unusual turn as social media users question Mangione's guilt, pointing to discrepancies between his appearance and images captured on CCTV shortly after the fatal shooting in New York City. Many have focused on differences in facial features, particularly the eyebrows of the masked man in the footage compared to Mangione’s distinctive thick eyebrows.

One X (formerly Twitter) user claimed, “It’s all in the eyebrows. Luigi Mangione is the fall guy.” Another wrote, “The jawline and chin don’t match unless his face gained 5 lbs and he grew thicker eyebrows overnight.”

Prosecutors now have 30 days to secure a governor’s warrant to proceed with Mangione’s extradition to New York, where he will face formal charges. Authorities have not commented on the growing social media theories, nor have they addressed claims of a potential cover-up.

As Mangione’s defense team prepares its case, public interest and speculation continue to mount. With calls for more transparency, the trial could hinge on forensic evidence that either links or clears Mangione in Thompson’s murder.
