KARACHI:

Sindh Local Government Minister Saeed Ghani has instructed all relevant departments to complete by the year-end their ongoing development projects, particularly those for which full funding has already been disbursed. Expressing frustration over the lack of urgency in executing these projects, Ghani warned of potential action against the officers responsible for delays.

While presiding over a meeting on Tuesday, the minister sought an update on the progress of projects and the utilisation of funds by various institutions, including Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), Karachi Development Authority (KDA), Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation, Malir Development Authority (MDA), Lyari Development Authority (LDA), and others. He stressed that all departments must finalise the approval of pending schemes by Dec 15 and initiate work immediately.

The minister also made it clear that no fees will be charged for the issuance of birth and death certificates for the next five years. Union councils found to be violating this directive will face strict action. Ghani also instructed all regional directors to ensure timely submission of monthly reports from the councils and to guarantee the proper use of government funds.
