Mariyam Nafees has set out on the yellow brick road
Mariyam Nafees Amaan was invited for a chat with Dananeer Mobeen on the YouTube show Girls Only, during which she merrily spoke about some key details of her life. From skincare tips to personal relationships, Mariyam's insights shone more light on the ebullient personality she is known for.
Aside from her skills onscreen, the Neem actor's smooth skin is a common object of envy. However, she credits this aspect of her physical beauty to genetics from her maternal side. But she believes that simple healthy habits are also essential, adding that she easily downs 2 litres of water. She strongly endorsed both hydration and sunscreen as the key ingredients to good skin.
Mariyam also believes that when it comes to love she is both a practical lover and a hopeless romantic, though more inclined to the latter side. A mere glimpse of her lively Instagram profile testifies to that fact, seeing as she is fond of celebrating life through pictures and motion captures.
Speaking of which, she also shared that it is easy to make content on the platform with both her buddies and her husband. "Your friends are your friends; there's transparency there. But with Amaan also that transparency is there because we were friends," she said, citing the words of her buddies, who view her dynamic with her husband as that of friends as opposed to lovers.
"I am more inclined towards fun content – comedic, satire. But being girls, we also like skincare and fashion reels," she said. "But of course, the activist in me wants to spread awareness. So I try to incorporate a bit of everything in the time that I get."
Adventurous as she is, Mariyam spoke at length about her fondness for travelling, especially after getting married. Although she hasn't checked off as many countries as her husband has, she does maintain a bucket list of the places she'd like to explore. The couple has an Instagram handle dedicated to their numerous journeys.
Having an appreciation for global cultures, she adores visiting places that are less explored by tourists. "Africa has so much culture that I don't understand why people don't go there. Like Cape Town, South Africa tops my list. It's a dream to have a house there," she enthused.
Aside from having a wandering soul, Mariyam also isn't behind on the ever-evolving linguistics of the internet. When asked about how she would explain "cancel culture" to her grandparents, she hilariously revealed that she would just insist on not going to her phuppo's (father's sister) house.
After having a hearty laugh, she candidly stated, "Look, other people might have good phuppos, but if I have to explain it (cancel culture) to my grandparents, I'd just tell them I don't want to go to my phuppo's place." She further emphasised that she'd rather not "solve" the resentment that she has with her aunt, claiming that the latter is "so toxic".
The 30-year-old actor also has an unwavering fondness for memes. "We're Pakistanis, no one can beat us in the meme game!" she exclaimed. "Not only is it epic, but I've also seen people become best friends by sharing memes."
Mariyam's work trajectory is testament to the fact that life's fun is not just limited to what happens outside of one's career. "Professionally, I would say that, Alhumdulillah, I've been very blessed. However much I've wanted to work, I have done it on my own terms," she said. "Recently, I collaborated with Kurt Geiger in London and I was the first Pakistani to do so. That's what makes me believe that I'm doing something good," she added.
But that's not all. The all-rounder actor also confirmed that she has been delving more into the production side with the guiding hand of her husband. "I joined him because when I'm not acting or doing my activism, I'm producing things," she revealed.
