53rd martyrdom anniversary of first Nishan-e-Haider hero Sawa Muhammad Hussain observed
Pakistan is observing the 53rd martyrdom anniversary of Sawa Muhammad Hussain, the first recipient of the Nishan-e-Haider, the country's highest military award. Hussain's courage and sacrifice during the 1971 war remain an indelible part of Pakistan's military history.
According to a statement by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Pakistan's top military leaders, including the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff and the heads of the three armed services, paid tribute to Hussain's unparalleled bravery.
He was instrumental in the destruction of 16 enemy tanks during the Zafarwal-Shakargarh sector battle in the 1971 war.
While serving on the front lines, Hussain was martyred after being struck by a machine gun bullet. His death is remembered as a symbol of unwavering loyalty and sacrifice for the nation’s defence.
The ISPR also praised Hussain's extraordinary devotion, stating that his legacy would continue to inspire both Pakistan’s military and its people. "His courage and dedication will always be remembered in golden words in Pakistan’s history," the statement read.
The nation's military leaders have called Hussain's sacrifice a beacon for the future, with his commitment to defending Pakistan serving as a powerful reminder of the nation's unyielding resolve.
