After ceasefire, provincial body to stabilise Kurram

CM's adviser to lead committee implementing govt decisions

The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government has established a provincial-level supervisory committee to restore peace and order in the volatile Kurram district.

The committee will be chaired by Chief Minister's Information Adviser, Barrister Saif, and include K-P Law Minister Aftab Alam, senior officials from law enforcement agencies, and the civil administration.

According to a notification issued by the Home Department, the supervisory committee has been tasked with ensuring the effective implementation of government decisions.

The committee also includes additional chief secretary (Home), additional inspector general (Operations), special secretary for higher education, special secretary for health, Kohat commissioner, (RPO) Kohat regional police officer.

The primary objective of the committee is to take practical steps to restore peace and stabliise the troubled region.

After days of armed conflict and over 131 fatalities in the tribal district of Kurram, a grand jirga has decided on an indefinite ceasefire and has agreed that the trenches will remain vacant until the final decision of the jirga is made, Express News reported on Friday.

Last week, a gathering took place under the guidance of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, with more than 100 tribal elders from Kurram in attendance.

The jirga was led by the Kohat Division commissioner, while DIG Shir Akbar Khan also participated.
