Love doesn't have a limit on age and the newly wedded centenarian couple from Philadelphia proves it. Marjorie Fiterman, aged 102, and Bernie Littman, aged 100, got married this year after almost a decade of being romantically involved, the official website of Guinness reported. Having a combined age of 202 years and 271 days, the two marked their spot on the Guinness Book of World Records by being the oldest pair to get married.
After the deaths of their previous spouses, Fiterman and Littman moved to a retirement home, where they first met during a costume party. Feeling the spark from the get-go, they soon expressed romantic interest in each other. Coincidentally, the birth of Littman's great-granddaughter also happened to mark their first date together.
In a surprising turn of fate, the duo learned that they could have crossed paths much earlier in their lives as they had both been enrolled in the University of Pennsylvania at the same time. As Fiterman became a teacher, Littman pursued engineering, both oblivious to the fact that they were in the vicinity of each other until decades later.
The wedding took place in the cosy environment of the retirement home, surrounded by family. Fiterman cited buttermilk as the reason for her long and joyful life, while Littman credited it to reading and staying up-to-date.
Littman's granddaughter Sarah Sicherman expressed the family being excited over the elder duo's affection towards each other. She told Guinness that the bride and groom "both love each other's humour and intellect" and that "they keep each other young."
Sicherman added in her announcement on Facebook that "with so much sadness [and] fear in the world, it's nice to be able to share something that brings people joy."
In an earlier post, she wrote, "Next week my 100-year-old grandfather is marrying his 102-year-old girlfriend! This unique celebration, marking a century of memories and more, promises to be an unforgettable day filled with love, laughter, and a testament to timeless affection."
