Who is Luigi Mangione? Ivy League graduate linked to CEO murder investigation

Luigi Mangione, 26, a tech graduate, is identified as a person of interest in Brian Thompson's targeted killing.

Authorities have identified Luigi Mangione, a 26-year-old Ivy League graduate, as a person of interest in the targeted killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson.

Arrested at a McDonald's in Altoona, Pennsylvania, Mangione was in possession of a ghost gun, silencer, and multiple fake IDs. Police uncovered a three-page anti-corporate manifesto on him, reportedly expressing "ill will toward corporate America."

Thompson, 50, was gunned down on a Manhattan sidewalk outside the Hilton hotel during his company’s investor conference. Surveillance footage suggests the assailant meticulously planned the ambush, fleeing on a bike and later disappearing via taxi. Ammunition left at the scene bore phrases like "delay," "deny," and "depose," echoing criticism of the insurance industry.

Mangione, a Baltimore native and former valedictorian, holds advanced degrees in computer science from the University of Pennsylvania. Law enforcement sources revealed connections between his manifesto and anti-establishment writings, including those of the "Unabomber."

The NYPD continues its investigation, focusing on Mangione's movements before and after the shooting. While he has not yet been charged, his arrest marks a critical turn in the high-profile case.
