A man from the Altoona, Pennsylvania, area is currently under investigation in connection with last week’s killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in Manhattan.

Law enforcement officials are treating his questioning as a significant development, after he was found in possession of a gun resembling the one used in Thompson’s fatal shooting. However, it remains too early to determine whether the man is directly connected to the crime.

The man was initially reported as suspicious by customers at a local McDonald's, who alerted police. Upon questioning, authorities discovered he was carrying a fake New Jersey ID, as well as a firearm similar to the one used in the murder. Investigators are also exploring the possibility that the man used a fake ID—bearing the name “Marc Rosario”—when he checked into a Manhattan hostel in the weeks prior to the killing.

Authorities are also considering the possibility that the suspect may have traveled to Altoona from New York by bus. Sources suggest he may have recently arrived from Philadelphia, prompting NYPD detectives to head to Altoona for further questioning.

This development comes as the search for Thompson’s killer continues. Thompson, 50, was shot at point-blank range on the morning of November 29, 2024, outside the New York Hilton Midtown, where he was headed for a conference. Surveillance footage captured the incident, but the suspect has yet to be identified. The NYPD, along with the FBI, continues to investigate.

A $50,000 reward for information leading to an arrest has been offered by the FBI, with the NYPD adding up to $10,000. Investigators are reviewing security footage and public tips to track the suspect's movements before and after the killing.

The NYPD recently released new images of the suspect from a taxi's surveillance camera, where his face was partially obscured by a medical-style mask. Authorities also recovered a bag believed to belong to the suspect from Central Park, which contained a jacket and Monopoly money, though no firearm was found inside. DNA testing is currently underway.

According to surveillance footage, the gunman was in New York for at least ten days before the shooting. Police believe he arrived in Manhattan on a Greyhound bus from Atlanta. After the shooting, he fled the scene on a bicycle, abandoned the bike in Central Park, and later took a taxi to the George Washington Bridge Bus Station. Investigators are still piecing together his movements, as they continue to work on identifying and locating the suspect.

Meanwhile, Brian Thompson’s family and colleagues mourn his loss. A private funeral service for Thompson was held on Monday, while the investigation into his killing remains ongoing.
