Cold spell in Karachi expected to continue for another week
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast that Karachi will continue to experience a cold wave for the next week, with dry weather and cool nights expected to persist, Express News reported on Monday.
According to the PMD’s Early Warning Centre, the minimum temperature in the city is likely to range between 10 to 12°C over the coming days. The centre also predicted that north-eastern winds from Balochistan will continue to blow during most of the day and night, adding to the chilly conditions.
The recent cold spell sweeping across Pakistan has brought a sharp drop in temperatures, with Lahore experiencing a low of 8°C, Islamabad and Peshawar registering 3°C and 6°C respectively. The cold snap has been particularly harsh in Quetta, where temperatures plummeted to -2°C.
In the mountainous region of Quetta, the mercury dipped even lower, with Ziarat reporting a bone-chilling -4°C. Qalat recorded a minimum of -6°C, while temperatures in Nokkundi and Gwadar stood at 0°C and 7°C, respectively.
In Ziarat, the extreme cold has caused pipes and tanks to freeze, and the chilling winds have disrupted daily life, with gas supply cuts further exacerbating the situation. Local residents have been facing severe difficulties due to the absence of heating during these freezing conditions.
The cold spell is expected to last throughout the week, with temperatures expected to remain low, and residents have been advised to prepare for the continuing cold weather.
