Queen Camilla’s son Tom speaks out on "Nepo Baby" label and his individual legacy within the royals
In a recent interview, Tom Parker Bowles, the son of Queen Camilla and stepson to King Charles III, opened up about growing up in the spotlight and the challenges that came with it. He discussed the persistent "nepo baby" label, acknowledging the privileges his royal connections brought but also emphasizing his desire to create a legacy independent of his family name.
“I suppose I have come full circle,” Parker Bowles said about his career in food writing and media. “I knew that if I did it, it would be all ‘Ah, he’s just a nepo middle-aged man, jumping on the bandwagon.’ But I’ve been thinking about it for a long time. In the end I just thought ‘screw it.’”
Despite being aware of the media’s focus on his family, Parker Bowles has made a name for himself in his own right. From his early days as a food critic to presenting on MasterChef, he insists that his success is rooted in his hard work and passion for food. “I’ve been with the same girlfriend for four years, but nobody has any interest in her, thank the lord," he added, subtly addressing the privacy and pressures of royal life.
Tom also reflects on the impact of growing up within the royal sphere, revealing, "You get used to the slings and arrows." He admits to feeling protective of his mother, Queen Camilla, especially during difficult times. However, he remains focused on his own path, carving out a career that is defined by merit and passion rather than royal ties.
While he's always been in the media's gaze, Tom Parker Bowles continues to build his own legacy, one step at a time.
