Lana Del Rey credits Jack Antonoff's love story for inspiring her marriage to Jeremy Dufrene
Lana Del Rey, while presenting Jack Antonoff with the Producer of the Decade award at Variety’s Hitmakers event, shared a rare insight into her personal life, crediting Antonoff’s marriage to actress Margaret Qualley for inspiring her to tie the knot with her husband, Jeremy Dufrene.
“I’m grateful for [Antonoff] for the example he gave me in his marriage to [Margaret Qualley],” Del Rey said. “I saw the way he looked at her when he met her, and he’s a big reason why I waited so long to get married, and why I met my amazing husband.”
Del Rey and Dufrene, a 49-year-old Louisiana boat captain, kept their relationship largely private until September when they made their first public appearance together at the wedding of model Karen Elson and Lee Foster in New York City. Weeks later, the couple obtained a marriage license and wed on September 26.
Del Rey reflected on her hesitancy to marry, attributing it to challenges within the music industry. “I feel like there’s a singers’ curse around meeting an honest partner who has no skin in the game, no dog in the race,” she said. “It’s super nerve-wracking to hold on to an innocent perception of how things could go when you’re in an industry where maybe your values and your morals don’t quite match up with what’s going on.”
Dufrene, who captains airboat tours near New Orleans, transitioned into this career from working at a chemical plant and shrimping. His company’s website describes him as someone who “quickly realized this was a great fit” and enjoys interacting with wildlife and customers.
