Cold weather triggers surge in respiratory infections
There is a sharp rise in respiratory infections due to cold weather, therefore, people should adopt preventive measures and maintain a healthy diet to mitigate the risks of illnesses ranging from mild colds to severe pneumonia, said Pulmonologist and Asthma Specialist Dr Waqas Rasheed.
Dr Rasheed advised citizens to remain vigilant and seek medical attention if they experience persistent symptoms such as coughing, sneezing, sore throat, or nasal congestion.
Experts attribute the increase in cases to the sudden drop in temperature and recommend simple steps to reduce risks, including wearing masks, washing hands frequently, staying hydrated, avoiding contact with symptomatic individuals, and maintaining a nutritious diet.
Dr Rasheed highlighted traditional remedies such as warm, nutrient-rich broths (yakhni) and soups, which help boost immunity and alleviate symptoms.
