Awards honour environmentalists
WWF-Pakistan hosted an awards ceremony to recognise the exceptional contributions to environmental conservation and stewardship on Friday.
Five individuals received awards for their efforts in safeguarding Pakistan's natural heritage.
Muhammad Idrees Nauman of the Wildlife and Fisheries Department, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, received the Syed Asad Ali Conservation Award for his courageous rescue of a stranded female common leopard.
Rizwana Aziz of the Punjab Wildlife and Parks Department was conferred the TJ Roberts Conservation Award for her extraordinary efforts in combatting illegal poaching and wildlife trade.
Sana Raja of the Islamabad Wildlife Management Board received the George Schaller Conservation Award for her outstanding contributions in rescuing and rehabilitating endangered species.
Dr Farooq Ahmad of the Punjab Agriculture Department was presented with the Herbion Nature Conservation Award for his groundbreaking work in wetland restoration and biodiversity conservation.
Raja Waseem Ahmed, an environmental activist, received the Al-Mizan Award for Environmental Justice for his legal advocacy in safeguarding local groundwater and biodiversity.
Ahmer Bilal Sufi, President of the Research Society of International Law, praised the contributions of the award recipients and underscored the importance of legal advocacy in achieving sustainable conservation outcomes.
Syed Rizwan Mehboob, Chairman of the Scientific Committee and Board Member WWF-Pakistan, admired the dedication of the award recipients and emphasized the vital role they play in advancing WWF-Pakistan's mission.
Hammad Naqi Khan, Director General WWF-Pakistan, praised the award recipients as true champions of environmental conservation and emphasized that their commitment inspires change and ensures a better future for generations to come.
The ceremony concluded with a call to action for increased cooperation and innovative solutions to protect Pakistan's rich biodiversity.
