‘Shōgun’ Dominates Critics Choice Awards Nominations, ‘Abbott Elementary’ & ‘The Diplomat’ Follow

Shōgun dominates the 2025 Critics Choice TV nominations with six nods, leading a star-studded list of top contenders.

The 30th Critics Choice Awards TV nominations are here, and Shōgun is leading the pack with a remarkable six nominations. This follows the show’s recent Emmys success. Coming in strong with four nominations each are a mix of other popular shows, including Abbott Elementary (ABC), Disclaimer (Apple TV+), Hacks (HBO|Max), The Penguin (HBO|Max), The Diplomat (Netflix), and the final season of What We Do in the Shadows (FX).

Following closely are eight other programs with three nominations each, making the race quite competitive. In terms of networks, Netflix takes the lead with 23 nominations, with HBO|Max not far behind at 21. FX, including its partnership with Hulu, earned 20 nominations, while Apple TV+ bagged 12.

The nominations for film categories will be announced on December 12, while the awards ceremony will take place on Sunday, January 12, at Barker Hangar in Santa Monica. E! will air the event live.

Shōgun has been one of the most talked-about series of the year, and with its record-breaking 18 Emmy wins from 25 nominations, it’s poised to continue its success at the Critics Choice Awards. The series will compete in the coveted Best Drama Series category against notable contenders like The Diplomat (Netflix), The Day of the Jackal (Peacock), Evil (Paramount+), Industry (HBO|Max), Interview with the Vampire (AMC), The Old Man (FX), and Slow Horses (Apple TV+).

The cast of Shōgun also shines in the nominations, with Hiroyuki Sanada and Anna Sawai leading the pack, along with Tadanobu Asano, Takehiro Hira, and Moeka Hoshi earning well-deserved nods for their performances.

In the Best Comedy Series category, Abbott Elementary (ABC), Hacks (HBO|Max), What We Do in the Shadows (FX), and others join the ranks, while English Teacher (FX), Nobody Wants This (Netflix), Only Murders in the Building (Hulu), and Somebody Somewhere (HBO|Max) complete the nominees.
