Mufti Rahim opposes Societies Registration (Amendment) Bill, 2024

KARACHI:

Mufti Abdul Rahim, Chancellor of Al-Ghazali University and patron-in-chief of Jamia Tur Rasheed, said on Thursday that if the Societies Registration (Amendment) Bill, 2024 were passed into law under the 26th Constitutional Amendment, seminaries would once again face registration challenges, reversing the progress made over the years.

He was speaking to journalists during a seminar at the varsity.

The seminar addressed the issue of educational reforms for seminaries, schools, colleges, and universities. It also focused on the nation's ongoing challenges and their potential solutions.

Mufti Rahim emphasized that the hard work of the past could be wasted, stressing that the agreement made three years ago be upheld. He called for avoiding any system changes that would force 18,000 seminaries into protests or street demonstrations.

He stated that as long as the educational system remained "flawed", incidents like those on Feb 8 and May 9 would continue to happen, resulting in conflicts and unrest. He attributed the country's deteriorating situation largely to the spread of fake news.

Mufti Rahim revealed that Al-Ghazali University was preparing to launch a degree programme focusing on this issue.
