NEWCASTLE, ENGLAND:

Mohamed Salah scored twice for Premier League leaders Liverpool in a thrilling 3-3 draw at Newcastle United on Wednesday, reducing their lead at the top of the table to seven points.

Liverpool appeared set for victory until Newcastle's Fabian Schär capitalised on goalkeeper Caoimhín Kelleher's error to equalise in the 90th minute.

Arne Slot's Liverpool now sit on 35 points, with Chelsea and Arsenal seven points behind after commanding wins. Chelsea thrashed 10-man Southampton 5-1, while Arsenal secured a 2-0 victory over Manchester United, handing United’s new manager, Ruben Amorim, his first league defeat.

Elsewhere, Manchester City ended a seven-match winless streak with a 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest, while Everton eased relegation fears by defeating Wolves 4-0. Aston Villa returned to form, defeating Brentford 3-1 at home.

Newcastle had the upper hand early on, leading through Alexander Isak's stunning strike, but Salah’s brilliance turned the tide for Liverpool in the second half. His pinpoint assist set up Curtis Jones for Liverpool’s equaliser before his own two goals appeared to secure the win until Schär’s late intervention.

Manager Arne Slot admitted Liverpool were poor in the first half but praised their second-half dominance. "3-3 was probably the fair result," he said, noting Newcastle’s aggressive start but Liverpool's recovery.

Salah, who now leads the Premier League scoring charts with 13 goals this season, also broke a league record for contributing a goal or assist in 37 matches.

In London, Arsenal proved too strong for Manchester United, with second-half goals from Jurrien Timber and William Saliba sealing victory. Timber headed home from Declan Rice's corner, while Saliba converted after a deflected header. Amorim acknowledged the decisive impact of Arsenal’s set pieces.

Chelsea surged past Southampton, taking the lead through Axel Disasi before Joe Aribo levelled. A goalkeeper error helped Christopher Nkunku restore Chelsea's lead, and Noni Madueke extended it before a red card for Jack Stephens left Southampton in disarray. Late strikes from Cole Palmer and Jadon Sancho completed the rout.

Manchester City responded to a dismal run by defeating Nottingham Forest with goals from Bernardo Silva, Kevin De Bruyne, and Jeremy Doku. Captain De Bruyne remarked on the team’s desire to "change the momentum" after their slump.

Aston Villa dominated Brentford early with first-half goals from Morgan Rogers, Ollie Watkins, and Matty Cash. Although Mikkel Damsgaard pulled one back for Brentford, Villa's win ended an eight-match winless run.

Everton’s Ashley Young, at 39 years old, became the club’s oldest scorer in a 4-0 win over Wolves. Wolves’ Craig Dawson scored two own goals, deepening the club's struggles as they sit second from bottom with nine points. Fans expressed frustration with manager Gary O’Neil.

The week’s results tightened the Premier League table, showcasing intense battles across all tiers as the season progresses.
