In the newest episode of his podcast 4th&1 with Cam Newton, Cam Newton proposed that Lil Wayne should step in to mediate the feud between Kendrick Lamar and Drake. The episode was titled If Rappers were College Football Programs: Kendrick Vs. Lil Wayne.
Newton called for Lil Wayne to handle the conflict, saying: “He won’t be able to do that with Dwayne Carter. I wanna see Lil’ Wayne… just for the appreciation of the art… because Drake ain’t capable.”
While Newton expressed his admiration for Drake, he shared that his opinion of the artist has shifted following his dispute with Kendrick Lamar. Newton also mentioned that he doesn't believe Drake "has it in him to go to the places that he needs to go to attack Kendrick properly."
Along with suggesting that Lil Wayne should step in to resolve the tension between Drake and Kendrick, Cam Newton also pointed out that Lamar was set to perform in Wayne’s hometown, New Orleans. Newton speculated that this could prevent Lil Wayne from releasing a diss track against Lamar since he would be performing in the same city.
Kendrick Lamar made waves when he unexpectedly released his new album GNX on November 22, 2024, which featured 12 tracks. One of the songs, Waced Out Murals, included a verse aimed at Lil Wayne, Snoop Dogg, while also paying tribute to Nas.
The lyrics referencing Lil Wayne said: “Used to bump Tha Carter III, I held my Rollie chain proud,” Lamar raps. “Irony, I think my hard work let Lil Wayne down/Whatever, though, call me crazy, everybody questionable.”
On September 8, 2024, Kendrick Lamar revealed that he would headline the 2025 Super Bowl halftime show in February. This announcement sparked controversy, with some artists, including Nicki Minaj, claiming that Lil Wayne should be the one performing, especially since the event was being held in his hometown of New Orleans.
In a video shared on Instagram on September 13, 2024, Lil Wayne voiced his disappointment at not being chosen for the 2025 Super Bowl performance, particularly because it was taking place in New Orleans.
