Japan's largest telecommunications company NTT Docomo, in partnership with Yoshimoto Kogyo Co., is venturing into the global entertainment scene with the debut of a new girl group called Cosmosy. The group, set to release their debut single on December 31, is composed of four talented Japanese members: a’mei, de_hana, himesha, and kamión.
Cosmosy is designed to embody the K-pop model, with a focus on youth, growth, and challenges symbolized by the group's name, which stands for "Youth’s Possibilities," "Infinite Cosmos," and "Growth and Conflict." The group's concept draws inspiration from a post-apocalyptic theme, with their teaser featuring manga-style visuals and a cinematic narrative that introduces viewers to their world. The teaser ends with a dramatic message: "The a(e)nd of the World – D-29."
This ambitious project also involves several high-profile K-pop creators, including the former creative director of BLACKPINK's debut, who has worked with top groups like LE SSERAFIM, Red Velvet, aespa, TXT, and IVE. According to a representative from NTT Docomo Studio & Live, the group aims to tap into the global market, drawing on the successful K-pop model to push the boundaries of Japanese pop culture.
Cosmosy’s formation is similar to that of XG, a Japanese girl group that has made waves globally through the K-pop system. NTT Docomo's move signifies a growing trend of Japanese companies using the K-pop formula to break into the international entertainment market.
Fans can expect Cosmosy’s debut on December 31, marking the start of what promises to be an exciting journey for the group on the global stage.
