Ana de Armas sparks controversy with heated response to journalist over Cuban politics

Ana de Armas insults Cuban journalist who over her boyfriend's ties to Cuban leader Díaz-Canel amid growing backlash.

Ana de Armas is facing growing controversy after an on-site confrontation with a Cuban journalist regarding her boyfriend’s ties to the Cuban regime. The Cuban actress, currently dating Manuel Anido Cuesta — the stepson and advisor of Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel — was dining at Madrid’s exclusive BiBo restaurant when tensions flared.

The evening took a dramatic turn when the journalist, from the ADN Cuba outlet, began questioning Anido about the Cuban government’s policies, including accusations of political repression and a growing food crisis. Anido reportedly stayed calm, thanking the journalist without engaging in a heated discussion. However, the situation escalated when the journalist allegedly commented on the couple’s lavish dinner, sarcastically noting the disparity between their lifestyle and the suffering of ordinary Cubans, accusing Anido of misusing Cuban resources.

The backlash was swift. Ana de Armas, visibly irritated, shouted an expletive at the journalist, shocking nearby diners. She reportedly continued with mocking remarks, escalating the tension. The couple chose to leave the restaurant to avoid further conflict.

Since news of their relationship broke, many fans, particularly within the Cuban community, have expressed disappointment. Critics argue that by dating Anido, De Armas is indirectly supporting the Cuban government, especially given his close ties to Díaz-Canel. The incident at BiBo has only intensified the backlash, with many pointing to the couple’s apparent disregard for the hardships facing ordinary Cubans.
