Pindi to get eco-friendly electric buses

November 2025 has been set as project's completion date

Punjab Government has decided to run 102 eco-friendly electric buses in Rawalpindi in a move to provide quality commuting facilities to the public.

Punjab Mass Transit Authority is expected to ensure implementation of the project by November 2025. Ten proposed routes have been decided for the buses. The project also aims to effectively reduce air pollution.

The decision to greenlight this project was taken in the 39th meeting of the Provincial Development Working Party held on October 25, after which the Punjab Government also gave administrative approval for 2024/25. The completion date for the project has been set as November 2025.

This project will cover an area of 84km in Rawalpindi. It is prospected to cost upwards of Rs7 billion. At this stage, however, the Punjab government has released Rs4.7 billion.

Ten public transport routes have also been identified and proposed. These include Railway Station, Metro Bus Station, Saddar via High Court, Coral Chowk to Fawara Chowk, Murir Chowk to Motorway Mor, Faizabad to Tirmari, Saddar Station to Lalah Rukh Colony, and others.
