Traffic fines yet to be reduced

RAWALPINDI:

Traffic fines in Rawalpindi district have not yet been reduced despite official announcements, and challans are still being issued at previously increased rates.

Although the administration announced a reduction in motorcycle fines from Rs2,000 to Rs1,000, motorcyclists continue to be fined Rs2,000.

Under the proposed changes, fines for speeding by motorcycles, rickshaws and cars were to remain unchanged, while other penalties were revised.

Motorcycle fines were to be reduced to Rs1,000, with a maximum cap of Rs2,000. Similarly, rickshaw fines were to be reduced from Rs3,000 to Rs1,000, with Rs2,000 for serious violations.

Fines for cars and jeeps were to be reduced from Rs5,000 to Rs3,000, while serious violations would still incur a Rs5,000 penalty.

For vehicles above 2000cc and other luxury vehicles, fines were to be reduced from Rs20,000 to Rs10,000, with a minimum fine of Rs2,000 and a maximum of Rs10,000.

Fines for Mazda trucks, coasters, small passenger vans and light vehicles were to be reduced from Rs20,000 to Rs7,000, while fines for buses, trucks and other heavy vehicles were to be lowered to Rs10,000. Other violations by light and heavy vehicles were also to see reductions of up to Rs10,000.

Officials said the revised fines are still a proposal and will be implemented only after approval by the assembly.
