Eminem's mother, Debbie Nelson, dies at 69 after battle with lung cancer

In 2008, she published a memoir to offer her perspective on their difficult relationship

Debbie Nelson, the mother of rapper Eminem, has passed away at the age of 69. A representative for the musician confirmed her death, revealing that she died Monday night in a Missouri hospital after a battle with lung cancer.

Nelson, whose complicated relationship with her son was frequently depicted in his early music, had been the subject of controversy in Eminem's songs, including hits like "My Name Is" and "Cleanin' Out My Closet."

In these tracks, the rapper accused his mother of drug abuse and neglect, which contributed to the strained nature of their relationship.

In 1999, Nelson filed a defamation lawsuit against her son, demanding $10 million in damages. She won the case, which added to the tumultuous history between the two.

Later, in 2008, she published a memoir titled My Son Marshall, My Son Eminem to defend herself and offer her perspective on their difficult relationship.
