PM meets French president, agrees to enhance cooperation in key sectors

Both leaders emphasised the importance of continued engagement on regional and global issues of mutual concern

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and French President Emmanuel Macron agreed to deepen bilateral cooperation in key sectors including agriculture, livestock, information technology, skills development, and clean drinking water during a meeting on the sidelines of the One Water Summit in Riyadh on Tuesday.

Both leaders emphasised the importance of continued engagement on regional and global issues of mutual concern. The discussions covered the full range of Pakistan-France relations, encompassing political, economic, trade, and investment ties, as well as collaboration at multilateral platforms such as the United Nations.

In his remarks, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif highlighted the potential to further strengthen economic and trade relations, urging France to explore investment opportunities in Pakistan, particularly in climate adaptation and renewable energy sectors.

He also acknowledged France’s leadership on climate change, praising President Macron’s support for Pakistan during the 2022 floods.

PM congratulated Macron for the successful co-hosting of the One Water Summit and noted the significance of the event in addressing global water challenges.
