A tragic incident in Faisalabad, where a newlywed bride was shot in the head two days after her wedding, has taken a dramatic turn, with police arresting the bride’s 10-year-old nephew and charging him with murder.
According to local media, on December 2, in the village of Chak 233 GB in the Jaranwala Tehsil of Faisalabad, a bride, identified as Fatima, was reported to have died after a gunshot wound to her head. Initially, her father told police that his daughter had tragically shot herself while filming a TikTok video.
However, an investigation led by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Tariq Mahboob raised serious doubts about the circumstances of her death.
Following a post-mortem, he said, forensic experts and doctors dismissed the possibility of a self-inflicted gunshot, and the claim of a TikTok video was also found to be unsubstantiated after examining the bride’s mobile phone.
"Doctors and forensic experts have concluded that it is highly unlikely that the bride shot herself. Further investigations have revealed that the fatal shot was fired by her 10-year-old nephew," SSP Mahboob said.
He further added that the initial narrative provided by the bride's father Abbas Jatt was found to be false. It was revealed that the father had attempted to protect his grandson by fabricating the story about the TikTok video. As a result, police filed a murder case and arrested the 10-year-old nephew in connection with the death.
"The investigation is ongoing, and the forensic report will provide further clarity on the case," SSP Mahboob added.
Earlier, it was reported that the incident occurred while the young woman was creating a TikTok video at her home.
The victim's father claimed that she placed a pistol against her forehead, which accidentally discharged, causing her instantaneous death.
