The Archewell Foundation, established by Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, has reported raising $5.3 million in 2023, more than doubling its previous year’s contributions.

Tax filings reviewed by PEOPLE reveal $1.3 million was allocated to charitable initiatives focused on mental health, women’s empowerment, and combating misinformation.

Major contributions include $250,000 to Ashley Biden’s Women's Wellness (Spa)ce in Philadelphia, aiding trauma recovery for women, and $130,000 to Humanity Crew, which supports mental health services for displaced families and aid workers in conflict zones like Gaza and Turkey. The foundation also donated $90,000 to The Markup, a nonprofit tackling digital misinformation, and $125,000 to the NAACP’s Digital Civil Rights Award, which this year honored Dr. Joy Buolamwini for her work addressing biases in AI.

Archewell’s revenue, supported by individual donors and grants, reached $5.7 million in total. Despite prior scrutiny over unreported funds in 2022, the foundation clarified these discrepancies, noting they are included in the latest filings. Meghan and Harry remain unpaid directors of the foundation, with key staff costs totaling $997,285.

Co-executive directors James Holt and Shauna Nep said in the foundation’s Impact Report: “Our purpose is simple yet impactful: to show up, do good, and drive positive change for communities in need.”

For 2024, Archewell aims to expand its initiatives, continuing its focus on mental health, community building, and digital rights.
