Federal cabinet greenlights national policy to prevent extremism
The Federal Cabinet approved the 'National Policy to Prevent Extremism 2024' on the recommendation of the Ministry of Interior, Express News reported.
Under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the cabinet also approved several significant policies and decisions during the meeting on Monday.
One of the key decisions was the approval of a proposal to establish the Islamabad Central Business District Development Authority, aimed at enhancing urban development and business prospects in the federal capital.
The cabinet also authorised the filing of a review petition against the Supreme Court's ban on the import of Monosodium Glutamate (Ajinomoto). The move follows a report by a special committee, which deemed the substance safe for human health.
The committee, comprised of experts from various research bodies, had been tasked with assessing the health impacts of Monosodium Glutamate.
On the education front, the cabinet gave a green light to the renewal of Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) with several prestigious global institutions, including the University of Cambridge and University of Oxford, to further academic collaboration.
It further approved the nomination of new subject experts to the Board of Governors of various universities and institutions, including the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Lahore and the University of Balochistan.
The cabinet also agreed on amendments to the jurisdiction of special courts, in line with directives from various high courts, including those of Sindh, Balochistan, and Peshawar.
