Kendrick Lamar to possibly drop another album this month after ‘GNX’ success
Kendrick Lamar’s latest album, ‘GNX’, has taken the music world by storm.
Upon its release, it quickly climbed to No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, debuting with 319,000 equivalent units earned in the U.S. during the week ending November 28. The album also saw the year’s second-biggest debut streaming week, cementing Lamar’s dominance in hip hop.
But it’s not just the album’s success that has fans buzzing. A fan theory posted on X (formerly Twitter) has sparked speculation that Lamar may drop another album before the end of the year. The theory, shared by user @WordFromKdot, suggests that ‘GNX’ contains a hidden Easter egg referencing the 1987 Buick Grand National car model, with a potential album release between December 12 and 14.
The fan claims that the album’s title, ‘GNX’, is a nod to the Grand National, a limited-edition car that Buick released in 1987. Between December 12 and 14 that year, owners could upgrade their GNX for a fixed fee of $2,660. The fan draws a parallel between this and the album's runtime of 44 minutes and 20 seconds—exactly 2,660 seconds—suggesting that Lamar is hinting at another album drop in mid-December.
This theory gained traction after XXL magazine published an article on November 27, which noted that the Grand National was similar to the car Lamar’s father drove when taking him home from the hospital.
The fan prediction quickly went viral, amassing over 1 million views and 18,000 likes on X within 24 hours of posting on December 1. While there has been no official confirmation from Lamar about a second album, the theory has added to the excitement surrounding ‘GNX’, which is already being hailed as one of the year’s biggest hip hop releases.
Kendrick might actually be a psychopath 😱
