Caroline Rhea and Beth Broderick recall holiday memories from 'Sabrina the Teenage Witch'
Caroline Rhea and Beth Broderick, beloved stars of Sabrina the Teenage Witch, recently shared their favorite holiday memory from the iconic series. Speaking to PEOPLE, the actresses, who played aunts Hilda and Zelda, fondly recalled the season 2 episode “Sabrina Claus,” featuring American pop legend Johnny Mathis.
Rhea described having Mathis sing Christmas songs between takes as “such a privilege,” while Broderick echoed her admiration, calling it a “moving experience” and a highlight for both the cast and her family. “We were just swooning,” she shared.
The actresses recently reunited for the Hallmark Channel film Holiday Mismatch. In this festive comedy, they play mothers who inadvertently matchmake their adult children via a dating app, leading to unexpected romance and friendship. Broderick, a veteran of 11 holiday films, called the experience “joyful,” while Rhea emphasized her love for family-friendly films with happy endings, reminiscent of their time on Sabrina.
The duo also reminisced about their comedic chemistry, particularly while filming a turkey sandwich scene. “We made each other laugh repeatedly,” Broderick said, noting their ease of improvisation.
Rhea reflected on Sabrina’s lasting impact as a multi-generational favorite. “The biggest gift of Sabrina is that it’s generational entertainment,” she said. She also recalled festive episodes like “A River of Candy Corn Runs Through It,” admitting it took her years to eat candy corn again after working with the prop food.
Their nostalgic memories highlight the enduring charm of Sabrina the Teenage Witch and its festive, family-friendly appeal.
