Young shopkeeper shot dead by alleged muggers
A young man was fatally shot by suspected muggers during an alleged robbery at a tyre shop near Guru Mandir on Sunday.
As per police, at least four armed men tried to loot shops in front of Islamia College within the limits of Jamshed Quarter police station.
When a young shopkeeper named Hasan Arif came out of his shop, the armed men shot him in the chest and fled . He was rushed to hospital in a critical condition where he succumbed to his injuries.
Eyewitnesses said that a rally was passing near Islamia College when armed muggers, taking advantage of the rush, started looting shops.
When three to four people were robbed, Hassan Arif, whose shop is also in the same line, came out of his shop to confront the muggers, who shot him fatally in the chest.
SSP East Farrukh Raza said that Hasan was a resident of Gulistan-e-Jauhar and his shop is located in Jamshed Quarter police station limits. The armed muggers killed him for resisting the robbery, SSP Raza said, adding that police have reviewed the crime scene, while footage from CCTV cameras in the areas is being obtained for identifying the suspects.
SSP Raza further said that a rally was also passing near the place where the incident took place. The armed accused took advantage of the rush and tried to loot shops.
SHO Imtiaz Rufi said that preliminary investigation reveals that a Sindh Culture Day rally was passing through the area when the muggers took advantage of the rush to commit the crime.
He said that the Hasan's marriage was scheduled after 12 days. The deceased was the second among three brothers.
