4 killed as attack on police station foiled

Over 20 terrorists launch assault with rockets, grenades

MIANWALI:

Punjab Police claimed to have repelled an attack on the Chapri police station in Mianwali by terrorists, killing four terrorists.

A Punjab Police spokesperson said the attackers—over 20 heavily armed militants—launched the assault from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's border region, targeting the Chapri police station in Isa Khel Circle.

The attack began with the terrorists firing rockets and hurling hand grenades at the police station. A fierce exchange of gunfire ensued between the attackers and police personnel, who defended the station valiantly.

Despite the intensity of the attack, all police staff remained safe, with only two officers sustaining minor injuries.

In the retaliatory action by the police, four militants were killed.

Senior officials, including District Police Officer (DPO) Mianwali Akhtar Farooq, were present on-site to lead the response.

Inspector General (IG) Punjab Dr Usman Anwar, commended the police for their bravery and commitment to thwarting the terrorists' plans.

"Praise is due to the Mianwali Police for neutralising the terrorist threat with exemplary courage," said IG Punjab.

He reaffirmed the department's readiness to combat extremist elements and protect the province. "Punjab Police remains vigilant and resolute in crushing the nefarious designs of these militants," he added.

The spokesperson further highlighted the morale and readiness of the Chapri police staff, Elite Force, and other personnel involved in the operation, underscoring Punjab Police's ongoing commitment to combating threats to peace.

This incident follows a series of counter-terrorism operations in the region.

On October 24, an intelligence-based joint operation by Punjab's Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) and Mianwali police, under the leadership of DPO Akhtar Farooq, resulted in the killing of 10 Khariji terrorists in the hilly Makharwal area of Malakhel.
