Gang of 'notorious street criminals' busted
A ringleader identified as Faheem, along with his accomplice Kamran, alias Kamo, was arrested in a joint operation by Rangers and police on Saturday.
The operation, driven by a tip-off, was conducted in Sardar Mumtaz village on Hub River Road. Faheem and Kamran have allegedly confessed to their involvement in several criminal activities, including robberies, street crimes, besides killing and injuring citizens during motorcycle and valuable snatching incidents, the police said.
The spokesperson further claimed that the arrested suspects are part of a 15-member gang and one of their accomplices, Muhammad Naeem, was arrested earlier while committing a robbery.
The gang committed crimes in Ittehad Town, Northern Bypass, Faqir Colony, Baldia Town, Afridi Colony, and Hub River Road areas. The arrested suspects, who have several FIRs already registered against them, have been arrested and imprisoned multiple times in the past.
Meanwhile, the Anti-Vehicle Lifting Cell (AVLC) police arrested an accused identified as Saeed alias Ayaz Abbasi in injured condition after an alleged encounter in Korangi Sector 35B.
A stolen car snatched from Gulshan-e-Iqbal area and weapons have been recovered from his possession. His accomplices managed to flee the scene. The police are conducting raids to nab him.
According to the police, Saeed is a habitual criminal involved in a number of cases dating back to 2010. He was previously arrested in 27 cases and served jail term.
