CJ stresses timely disposal of tax cases

Chairs two meetings to develop strategy for adjudicating pending cases

Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi has said there is a need to discourage delay in adjudication of cases related to tax matters.

The CJ made this remark on Thursday while chairing a meeting convened to review pending tax cases. The meeting was also attended by the legal team of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).

Representatives of the bar who were also invited to the meeting assured the top judge of their full cooperation in timely disposal of tax related matters.

Another meeting also attended by Justice Ayesha A Malik and Justice Shahid Bilal Hassan reviewed judicial reform for timely disposal of cases. Renowned development expert Sher Shah also participated in the meeting also chaired by the CJ.

The meeting reviewed improvements related to modern technology and case management. Measures to enhance capacity through training were also discussed during the session.

Soon after taking charge, CJ Afridi on October 28 convened a full court meeting to take stock of the pending cases and to deliberate over ways to clear that backlog through better management and use of modern technology.
