Asad Qaiser refutes claims of nomination as PTI chairman

Former National Assembly speaker Asad Qaiser has denied reports suggesting that he was nominated by PTI founder Imran Khan as the new party chairman. 

In a statement on Thursday, Qaiser refuted claims of his appointment, adding that decisions regarding the party’s leadership, including the post of secretary general, would be made after consultations with Khan, who remains incarcerated.

The denial came after media reports surfaced claiming that Khan had removed Barrister Gohar Ali Khan from the chairman’s position and appointed Qaiser as his replacement. 

PTI’s 'final' protest against alleged election rigging and the release of arrested workers was marred by clashes and a large-scale police operation that began on November 26.

Hundreds of PTI supporters were arrested during the crackdown, which successfully dispersed the protesters at D-Chowk.

The abrupt suspension of the protest led to backlash from PTI workers, who criticised party leaders for their absence during the protest.

Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur and Imran Khan's wife, Bushra Bibi, had led the demonstration, but party leadership’s failure to take a front-line role fueled anger within the ranks.
