Videos have surfaced online showing Tim Lambesis, the frontman of the metalcore band As I Lay Dying, in disturbing exchanges with his wife, Dany.

The footage, which includes two separate incidents, has generated significant controversy. Lambesis has since spoken out, alleging that the videos were released in retaliation after he filed for divorce.

In one video, first posted on Vimeo before being removed, Lambesis is seen having a tense argument with Dany in a bedroom. While there is no audio, the footage shows him visibly agitated, shouting at his wife, and shaking his fists. He then bangs his head with his fist several times and punches his own arm. When he notices the camera on the nightstand, he turns it away, attempting to conceal the recording.

A second video, which includes audio, shows Lambesis in an argument with Dany on an outdoor porch. The video captures Lambesis overturning a table that his wife had been sitting at. When she attempts to walk away, he intercepts her, professing his love and continuing to shout at her. As Dany distances herself, Lambesis begins to punch himself, while she pleads for him to stop.

These videos began circulating after Lambesis filed for divorce, leading to widespread speculation about the cause of the altercation.

In response to the videos, Lambesis issued a statement claiming that Dany was the source of the domestic disturbances, alleging a pattern of verbal and mental abuse over the past three years. Lambesis stated that he had served her with divorce papers earlier that week, and he believes the videos are a form of retaliation for his decision to leave the relationship.

“The timing of these public attacks online is because I served her with divorce papers yesterday after many days of her pleading for me to stay while also flipping back and forth between attempts at abusive control,” Lambesis said in his statement. “This is blatantly a retaliation for me finally leaving a relationship I should have run from a long time ago.”

He continued: “There is currently a restraining order and a domestic violence investigation being filed against Dany Norris (formerly Lambesis). Anything she is saying now is to distract people away from that, to instead focus on my own inappropriate (but not illegal) reactions to these anxiety-inducing interactions.”

Lambesis also detailed other disturbing incidents in his statement, alleging that Dany had assaulted him, including chasing him around the house with a knife or scissors. He also mentioned threatening behavior, including an incident in which Dany allegedly held a weapon over his head while insisting he delete all evidence of her assaults. He further provided photos documenting an alleged black eye he sustained, which he claims are supported by witness accounts.

Dany, who has since removed Lambesis from her name, publicly denied the abuse allegations. In her first statement after reactivating her social media, she called the rumors “unfounded” and “completely false.” She expressed sadness over the way the situation had been portrayed and emphasized that there had never been an incident warranting such accusations.

“It is completely unjust that everything spread the way it did and nobody even considered my voice to be heard through it all,” Dany wrote. “I ask that you respect our privacy during this time and refrain from perpetuating these harmful rumors any further.”

The ongoing controversy comes amid a series of departures from As I Lay Dying. In late October and early November, bassist Ryan Neff, guitarist Ken Susi, drummer Nick Pierce, and guitarist Phil Sgrosso all left the band. Drummer Brandon Short, from Lambesis' other band Austrian Death Machine, also exited, citing mental well-being and personal beliefs as the reasons for his departure.

Lambesis acknowledged that there had been an “unhealthy environment” within As I Lay Dying but expressed support for his bandmates’ decisions. He also confirmed his intention to continue As I Lay Dying as a solo project, with plans to book upcoming festivals and promote their recently released album Through Storms Ahead.

As the situation continues to unfold, Lambesis and Dany are facing a challenging public and legal battle, with no clear resolution in sight.
