Japanese man admits breaking into 1,000 homes as 'hobby'
A 37-year-old office worker in Fukuoka Prefecture of Japan's main Kyushu island has been arrested after admitting to trespassing on more than 1,000 homes, telling police it was his "hobby" and a way to relieve stress.
The suspect, who lives in Dazaifu City, was apprehended on November 25 when he entered the premises of a self-employed man around 1 p.m. The homeowner and his wife noticed the intruder in their garden and alerted police.
During interrogation, the man confessed to his actions, saying, "Breaking into other people's homes is a hobby of mine, and I've done it over 1,000 times." He further explained that the excitement of potentially being discovered gave him a rush.
"I get a thrill wondering if someone will find me or not, enough to make my palms sweat, and it relieves stress," he told investigators.
The police are investigating if the suspect is linked to other unsolved cases of trespassing in Fukuoka Prefecture. While no thefts have been reported in connection with the incidents, authorities are taking the matter seriously due to the psychological nature of the crimes.
The case has raised concerns among local residents, prompting calls for increased security measures in the area.Home invasions and trespassing are rare, and cases involving repeated intrusions without theft are even more unusual.
