Miss Universe Victoria Kjaer Theilvig slammed for lip-syncing N-word in Jay-Z song on TikTok
The newly crowned Miss Universe faced backlash after sharing a video on social media that seemed to show her lip-syncing a racial slur from a Jay-Z song.
Victoria Kjaer Theilvig, a Danish model, ignited controversy after mouthing the lyrics to “Empire State of Mind,” which includes the n-word, in a nearly 20-second TikTok clip filmed atop the Empire State Building.
“I can’t believe I’m witnessing this in real time,” one social media user commented with another user writing, “Girl WHAT?!.”
“Hey so, this is crazy,” another user opined.
Another TikTok account argued, “They gonna take that crown.”
Some users debated whether she started lip-synching right after Jay-Z raps the n-word in the New York-themed song.
“Yall are some haters she clearly was smiling,” a user insisted.
Some dismissed the backlash as excessive.
“A white woman sings a song by a black man and gets called racist by the woke mob,” a user on X wrote. “She has nothing to apologize about.”
Theilvig, 21, made history by winning the 73rd Miss Universe title earlier this month in Mexico City, outshining over 120 other contestants.
Conservatives celebrated her victory following last year’s pageant, where a transgender woman from Portugal placed in the top 20, and a 22-year-old became the first transgender Miss Netherlands.
“Biological & objectively attractive women are allowed to win beauty pageants again,” Donald Trump Jr. tweeted. “WE ARE SO BACK!!!”
After her win, Theilvig toured New York City and switched on the lights of the Empire State Building in red and white, symbolizing Denmark’s colors, to mark her victory.
